Remedy discusses next Alan Wake DLC, 'The Writer'
Outside of the knowledge that a second episode of DLC for Alan Wake -- titled "The Writer" -- will be coming sometime this fall & that it will cost 560 MS Points ($7), tiny else is known about the developer's designs for the future of the series. Though head of franchise development Oskari Häkkinen didn't get specific, they told Eurogamer that the second DLC may not necessarily be the last they see of Mr. Wake on Xbox Live Marketplace. "I cannot confirm whether this is going to be the last one or not. There's some things in the pipeline that we are taking a look at, & we are balancing out how they will move on with this," Häkkinen said.
In terms of "The Writer," though, Treatment \.\. writer Mikko Rautalahti added that gameplay will skew towards the type present in the first DLC ("The Signal", while level design errs more on the side of fantasy than the first. "You will be seeing much more weird stuff. & we have learned a bit from making 'The Signal,' & we'll be applying that to 'The Writer' a bit," they said.
Both Häkkinen & Rautalahti remained comparatively tight-lipped on the subject of an Alan Wake sequel, with Häkkinen only allowing, "I don't see any reason why they would not continue with Microsoft with a full-blown sequel for Alan Wake. They definitely require to do it. They have great ideas for it. I can see Mikko here twiddling his thumbs together with his ideas for Alan Wake 2. There is definitely a require, & that require is I think from both sides." They did, however, add, "Right now I cannot confirm anything." Given our feelings on the game (& the first DLC), they have all our fingers & toes crossed for more.
